Affected Area
The new towns task force says this will be a “standalone settlement”. An area of 2400 acres has been identified, including Adlington Hall Estate and additional acquired land. This is similar to the built area of Macclesfield (2500 acres), and also Hazel Grove and Poynton combined (2200 acres). As the land borders the Peak District; this build would essentially remove the boundary of countryside between Manchester and the Peak District. The land from Manchester to the Peak District would skip the field aspect and go straight from “built” to “moorland”, taking away the area’s rural appeal. As the area includes land at an elevation of 600ft, this would be visibly evident when the hills are viewed from vantage points in Manchester. It would merge Stockport and Macclesfield. Read more
