Adlington New Town on BBC Question Time

Updated: January 22, 2026

BBC Question Time came to Macclesfield today, with Adlington New Town featuring prominently in the discussion—highlighting just how important the issue is to local people.

A small protest took place outside the venue as the audience arrived, ensuring the topic was firmly in the spotlight. Several residents, including a local farmer whose own land would be affected, put questions to the panel about how the new town can be justified given the destruction of nature and working farms.

Our own Gemma Jackson was in the audience raising the contradiction of this government’s policies to protect the environment while destroying it. Others brought up all the issues of affordability, lack of infrastructure, environmental damage and food security.
