Cheshire East Council Writes Objection to Steve Reed

By: Gekko Media

Updated: December 22, 2025

Cheshire East Council has formally objected to the Government’s proposal for Adlington New Town, urging the Secretary of State for Housing, Steve Reed MP, to remove the site from consideration.

The objection follows a Full Council meeting on 10 December 2025, attended by all 71 councillors and more than 100 residents, where the motion opposing the scheme was unanimously approved . The Council raised concerns over green belt loss, environmental damage, transport capacity, healthcare and education provision, flood risk, and a lack of local engagement. It argued that development should prioritise brownfield sites and follow the Local Plan process
