Cheshire Wildlife Trust Raises Alarm Over Adlington New Town Plans

Published: December 13, 2025

Cheshire Wildlife Trust has published a new ecological report highlighting the significant nature and wildlife value of the Adlington area and warning that proposals for a new town could cause irreversible environmental harm.

The report gives a high level overview of Adlington’s landscape, identifying ancient woodland, species rich grasslands, extensive hedgerows and ponds, and important wildlife corridors that support protected and declining species. Together, these habitats form a highly connected and sensitive ecological network that is difficult to replace once lost.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust says the scale of a proposed new town at Adlington would fragment habitats, disrupt wildlife movement, and undermine nature recovery efforts, particularly given the area’s Green Belt status and proximity to the Peak District.

The Trust is urging decision makers to consider the evidence carefully and to prioritise protecting Adlington’s nature and wildlife, warning that development on this scale risks the permanent loss of irreplaceable countryside.
