Protest at Poynton Relief Road

200 Residents Unite to Say No to Adlington New Town

By: Julia and Geoff Latham

Updated: November 8, 2025

On Saturday, around 200 local residents gathered in Adlington to send a clear message: we will not stand by while our countryside is destroyed.

Families, walkers, cyclists, and long-time residents came together to oppose the proposed Adlington New Town development. A plan that would cover miles of cherished green-belt land with up to 20,000 houses. The turnout showed the strength of local feeling: people from across the area stood shoulder to shoulder to defend the farms, wildlife and countryside that define our community.

Speakers reminded everyone why this fight matters. Once the green belt is gone, it’s gone forever. The crowd spoke with one voice, calling for sensible, sustainable housing that protects the countryside, not obliterates it.

ITV News attended the protest , giving national attention to what so many of us already know: this is a community that cares deeply about its home.
